AIGA 2016 Designer’s Ball Call for Artist

Deadline: Extended (To Be Determined)

Call for Artists

Designers’ Ball: our Annual Meeting and For A Cause events turned Gala, will be scheduled for the fall of 2016. Join us for a night of celebration, drinks, awards, art, and a keynote talk. More information to be announced soon.

But, first, we need your help.

Artists, we want you to apply to be a part of the Gala. If selected, your donated artwork will be displayed and auctioned at Designer’s Ball while we celebrate 27 years of AIGA. In 2013, our art theme was BOOKS. In 2014, we were inspired by DOTS. Well, after much contemplation, we felt that our first Gala deserves a standard theme (to be turned on its head into a non-traditional piece of art): plates. That’s right. PLATES.

Designer’s Ball calls for artists, designers and illustrators to redefine the arts and design, using plates as their canvas. Participants will donate their work for a silent auction to benefit AIGA Saint Louis’ Community Programming, such as our annual Student Conference, Scholarship, and Mentor Match programs while assisting in the development of the new Fellows Program and EMERGE Career Survival Series.

Each piece must include a plate somehow (we will provide a white ceramic plate if requested), and must either easily hang on a nail on a wall or fit comfortably on a pedestal or the ground. Check out some inspiring plate designs here.

Submit your application including name, email, phone, and links to work samples to this link here by the deadline, to be determined ASAP. A brief description and explanation of your design idea are welcomed. (Include all application components in one email.) We will announce final due dates for artwork as soon as possible for the fall gala.

Selected artists will be invited to attend the Gala free of charge.

Artists will be selected by our judges:

Eric Thoelke
President & Executive Creative Director, TOKY Branding and Design

Roseann Weiss
Director of Artist and Community Initiatives, Regional Arts Commission

Kiku Obata
President, Kiku Obata & Company
