Design Show 23 Recapitulate

The Big Design Show

This year out of the two hundred plus entries into Design Show 23 only seventy plus made it on to the walls at Mad Art Gallery. It was a reunion of Designers and Friends with fried ravioli and cheesesteaks for all. With a small selection of alcoholic beverages accompanied by The Big Design Show, souvenir cups guess enjoyed the night of featured artists.

The judges this year Su Mathews Hale, Justin Ahrens, and Ilene Sandler all echoed sentiments of good design here in St. Louis. They also emphasized the importance of student submissions and they hoped to see more student submission in future shows. At seven pm president, Tim Hykes took to the stage to properly greet the audience in his fun quirky way. As we all know he’s very shy as if anyone believes it that has yet to be determined. He thanks the sponsors followed by giving the stage to Cherry Berry Paper the agency responsible for this year’s branding. From there Design Show Chair, Joseph Roberts, and Co-Chair, Alison Boudreau, gave their sentiments as newcomers to the positions and how they pulled off this awesome show this year.

Best of Show went to Paradowski for their website. All of the judges agreed it was a right mix of art and technology and spoke to both the craftsmanship and creative thought behind the submission. Honorable mention went to Carlos Zamora for his Gateway Arch Foundation Poster.

Overall, the community enjoyed the show. There was a great mix of creative from all areas of our city, and it was a night to remember why we do we do. The show will be up at Mad Art Gallery until the end of the week. If you didn’t get a chance to make it out you still have a few days left to see all the collection.
