Meet Ally Plume
Art Director and Motion Designer at Jumper
Hi! I’m Ally, an art director and motion designer. I graduated from Lindenwood University in 2019 and spent the first two years of my career working as a motion designer at Paradowski Creative. I then worked as a motion designer at Aligned Media, a post-production studio. Today I work as a designer and illustrator at Zumper, a rental platform start-up, and I’m grateful every day.
How did you get started in design?
I’ve always loved art and drawing since childhood and chose to major in Graphic Design at Lindenwood University.
What career accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of illustrating the landing page for Zumper.com. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to create an illustration seen by so many people and I’m proud of how it turned out.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration through companies like Buck, Oddfellows, Giant Ant, Ordinary Folk, Vucko, Very True Story, and the freelancers they work with.
How do you deal with creative burnout?
Sometimes the only thing you can do is take some much-needed PTO and rest for a few days.
What piece of advice would you offer to fellow creatives?
Look at the portfolios of people you admire and the places you want to work and try to make your portfolio look as much like theirs as possible. Tailor your work to the job that you want.
What is one book that all creatives should read?
The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman
What is your favorite place in St. Louis?
The Botanical Gardens!
