My journey in design began with a passion for creativity and visual communication. From a young age, I found joy in sketching and experimenting with different fonts and layouts. As I grew older, I delved into formal design education and honed my skills through hands-on experience and continuous learning. One of my creative heroes is Aaron Draplin. As a contemporary graphic designer, Draplin’s bold, retro-inspired aesthetic and dedication to design craftsmanship have made him a significant figure in the industry. Inspiration can be found everywhere, from nature’s intricate patterns to the bustling streets of the city. I also seek inspiration from art galleries, design exhibitions, books, and online platforms where I can explore the latest trends and emerging talents. Moreover, I believe in the importance of stepping away from screens and immersing myself in real-world experiences to spark fresh ideas. The best part of working in design is the ability to bring ideas to life and make meaningful connections through visual storytelling. My advice to fellow creatives is to embrace curiosity, cultivate resilience, and never stop learning. Stay open to new perspectives, experiment fearlessly, and don’t be afraid to fail because every setback is an opportunity to grow. Additionally, seek mentorship, collaborate with peers, and remember that success is not defined by perfection but by perseverance. One book that I highly recommend to creatives is “Thinking with Type” by Ellen Lupton. Whether you’re a seasoned designer or just starting out, this book serves as a comprehensive guide to mastering the intricacies of typography and elevating your design practice. The last song I listened to was Plantasia by Mort Garson. My favorite places in St. Louis are Forest Park and the City Museum.
